What the official rule means
The weight and dimension limits are not an airline-style checked allowance automatically managed at the gate. You are responsible for carrying and safely placing the bag without blocking aisles, doors, or shared space. Foldable wheelchairs used by travelers who depend on them and foldable strollers accompanying infants have specific exemptions in the current rule.
Measure hard-shell cases, sports equipment, and unusual items before travel. If a bag exceeds the carry-on rule, investigate official luggage consignment or shipping in advance; do not assume every train or station offers the same last-minute service.
Where bags go
Small bags normally fit above the seat or at your feet when they do not obstruct others. Larger suitcases may use racks near the end of the carriage or another area directed by staff. Space is shared and not reserved with the seat.

Station security

Current examples include restrictions on weapons and replicas, explosives, flammable or corrosive materials, certain blades and tools, aerosols, alcohol, lighters, and lithium batteries or power banks. Do not rely on airline rules: railway categories and limits are separate.
Oversized or difficult luggage
If the bag is technically compliant but hard to manage, reduce the number of transfers and allow more time for elevators, security, and boarding. Travelers using mobility equipment or needing help should contact the relevant station or 12306 support about the service available at that station. The official English FAQ notes that some large stations provide priority counters and wheelchair services, but this is not a promise for every station.
For a long layover, use a staffed official storage service only after confirming its identity requirements, operating hours, and collection deadline. Locker access may depend on the local system.
Common failures
No rack space near the seat: ask railway staff where the bag may be placed; do not block an exit or leave it in an unapproved area.
An item is stopped at security: follow staff instructions. Do not argue that it was allowed on a flight or on a previous trip.
A bag is left on board: report it immediately at the station service desk or through official railway support with the train, carriage, seat, and bag description.
You cannot lift the case: repack before departure, use a smaller bag, or arrange official assistance where available. Other passengers are not a guaranteed lifting service.
