Day-by-day plan

Day 1
Shanghai

Old city to Pudong to the Bund

Follow the canonical classic-core sequence so the river crossing becomes part of the story rather than an extra transfer. Use the museum module only as a weather or closure substitute.

What to book ahead

No route-specific deadline is listed. Check each operator's official release calendar and the Attraction Booking guide before travel.

If you have fewer days

This is a 1-day route. If you have less time, remove one stop rather than compressing every day. Compare the route index for a plan designed around your actual trip length.

The route logic

This plan moves through three versions of Shanghai: the old Chinese city, the modern Pudong bank, and the historic Bund. The ferry or another simple river crossing connects those perspectives without turning the day into repeated backtracking.

What not to add

Do not add a distant water town, a full museum visit, and a long Former French Concession walk to the same day. If rain, haze, or a closure weakens the main route, replace a block with the museum module rather than forcing every stop.

If you prefer neighborhoods to skyline

Use the two-day Shanghai itinerary or replace the Pudong block with the French Concession module. That produces a different day, not an expanded version of this one.
