Beijing Central Axis Full Day
This route reads Beijing's imperial core in its intended south-to-north order. Tiananmen establishes the modern ceremonial threshold, the Forbidden City supplies the architectural sequence, and Jingshan reveals the entire composition from above. The value lies in continuity rather than collecting unrelated landmarks. Confirm each controlled entry separately, preserve enough time for the palace, and treat the final climb as interpretation rather than another checklist stop.

Mutianyu Great Wall Day Trip
Mutianyu works best as a single-purpose day rather than an attachment to another major Beijing sight. The transfer, ascent choice, wall walking, weather, and return journey already create a complete experience. Keep the plan flexible: decide how far to walk only after assessing conditions, and treat cable-car, chairlift, toboggan, shuttle, and admission products as separate operational facts resolved from the Place record.

Beijing Shichahai Evening
This is a decompression module, not another round of major sightseeing. Shichahai offers a legible public-space route, neighborhood atmosphere, and an easy place to anchor dinner after a demanding day. Keep it intentionally small: one area, one meal, and enough unstructured time to observe the city. Controlled venues, performances, and temporary access restrictions remain separate decisions and should never be inferred from the public lakeside route.

Beijing Weekly-Closure Fallback
Weekly closures in Beijing vary by operator, statutory holiday, season, and temporary program, so this module does not hardcode a universal Monday list. Its job is to preserve one coherent day after current Place records have been resolved. Mutianyu is the primary candidate when its booking, weather, and transport conditions work. Otherwise select one available park-and-neighborhood combination rather than crossing the city on assumptions or stacking weak substitutes.
Mutianyu Great Wall
Important
This plan assumes two complete sightseeing days after arrival. Check every Place's maintained visitor panel before relying on booking, passport, admission, access, or opening details.
Day-by-day plan
Day 1
Beijing
Central Beijing and the imperial axis
Use the canonical Central Axis module as the backbone. Keep the day geographically compact and add only a short evening if energy remains.
Tiananmen and Forbidden City sequenceJingshan or a nearby evening, not both at full depth
Day 2
Beijing
A dedicated Great Wall day
Protect the second day for Mutianyu rather than squeezing the Wall around city sights. Return to central Beijing for a flexible final evening.

What to book ahead
No route-specific deadline is listed. Check each operator's official release calendar and the Attraction Booking guide before travel.
If you have fewer days
This is a 2-day route. If you have less time, remove one stop rather than compressing every day. Compare the route index for a plan designed around your actual trip length.
The decision behind this route
Two days is enough for a strong first impression, but only if the trip accepts a hard tradeoff: one day belongs to central imperial Beijing and one belongs to the Great Wall. Treating the Wall as a quick add-on usually creates a rushed city day and a fragile transfer plan.
What to cut first
On Day 1, keep the main central sequence and remove side galleries or extra neighborhoods before removing the route’s core. On Day 2, shorten the optional evening before shortening the Great Wall visit. The reusable modules above contain the current stop order, physical-load notes, booking dependencies, and closure fallback.
If a booking or closure breaks the plan
Use the weekly-closure fallback module instead of improvising with stale opening information. A lost timed-entry booking should change the day’s structure, not send you to an unofficial seller. For current attraction procedures, use the attraction booking guide and the canonical Place panels linked from each module.
Who should choose three days instead
Add a third day if museums, hutong life, the Summer Palace, slower photography, children, or limited mobility matter. The three-day Beijing itinerary leaves more room for rest and a genuine neighborhood block.
